Heritage Studies: Critical Approaches and New Directions Conference

The AHRC Heritage Priority Area team, in association with the UK Chapter of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies, hosted a one-day conference on Heritage Studies: Critical Approaches and New Directions, which took place at the British Academy in London on Thursday 5 October 2017.

The Conference had over 50 presenters join us to showcase their research in one of six sessions: Brexit and Heritage; Conflict; Diversity; Digital Heritage and Museum/Visitor Experience; The Environment and Heritage Management; and Politics and Policy.

Our two keynote speakers for the Conference were:

  • Christopher Whitehead (Professor of Museology, Newcastle University) who presented ‘Critical Heritages of Europe: Crisis and Crossings’; and
  • Sian Jones (Professor and Chair of Environmental History and Heritage, University of Stirling) who presented ‘The Object of Conservation: Negotiating Authenticity, Significance and Time Through Heritage Practice’.
