In January this year, we co-organised a conference – Heritage, Decolonisation and the Field – with the German Historical Institute of London/Max Weber Stiftung to explore the development of heritage as a distinctive, international field of governance and its relationship with histories and practices of decolonisation. The two day conference hosted talks by a number of international scholars working across these areas of research, and thoughtful discussion amongst an engaged audience.
Videos of the Keynote Presentations – “Decolonising South Asia through Heritage- and Nation-Building” by Sudeshna Guha (Associate Professor, Department of History, Shiv Nadar University) and “Colonising the Field: Scientific Networks and the Sites of Archaeology in Early Twentieth-Century Tunisia” by Daniel J. Sherman (Lineberger Distinguished Professor, Art History and History, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) – are now available on our AHRC Heritage YouTube Channel and our website.
